The Annual Galaxy of Cars
Feb 09

This event is the largest in Auckland for the true classic era cars from the 40’s to the 70’s so our Jowetts were in good company

Seventeen Jowetts meant our allotted space was overflowing, but this number of Jowetts certainly made a statement about the strength of the Club.  But it was not sheer numbers that achieved the “Best Club Display Award”, the judges said that “this little Club as well as having well presented cars went to  some effort to provide information to the public”   Our display boards and car bonnets being open certainly created interest.

 

The Club competition for the best Jowett for the Christie Cup was again determined by all members judging all the cars except their own.  This results is a broad opinion and consistent result.  The standard of Jowetts continue to improve and with several cars undergoing restorations or tidy ups maybe next year we will book space for twenty

 

The Brendon Jupiter followed close by the Alan Stanley Javelin and Terry North Bradford took out the Christie Cup Awards, good to see all 3 Jowett models in the top 3 places

Intermarque Classic Car Fun Run and Picnic
The fantastic weather certainly helps classic car runs as many look best with their hoods down. Enjoying this day that had over 200 cars of all marques taking place we the Johns’ and the Moore’s who with six different organised runs to choose from chose the 100km scenic run to Matua wines for a picnic in their grounds and a bit of tasting.  Bunty Condon took her Jupiter to the Glenbrook Vintage Festival

The theme this year was the "Jowett Comercial"
Repesenting all basic models of Bradfords Lorry, flat top, Van , Estate
 

The display of Bradfords was supported by a display engine,
rolling chasis and frame, banners and the display board containing information on Bradfords and successes of Jowetts.
The Meguiar's Stand, a major sponsor of the show, was just across the way
Jokingly, Keith asked, "Can you do my car next" (as one does).
"Where is it?"  "In the car park, used as a tow vehicle for the Bradford"
 "What sort of car?" "69 Camaro" .....Shock horror!
"And THATS the tow vechile?"    "Yep"
"Ok bring it over in 1/2 hr"
"Can you polish the old box trailer to?"
"NO!"   "Thought that might be pushing it a bit "

Classic Car and Bike Show March 22, 2009
What a great location, down on Auckland’s waterfront in the viaduct carpark in the centre of the cafes, bars and restaurants, with the Skytower as a back drop.  This is a very busy place on a sunny  Sunday , and so good crowds of walk up public and a different crowd form those that come to car shows. As usual the Jowett line up drew more that  it’s fair share of interested visitors, with many tourists especially from Asia having not seen older cars like ours in good condition and still being used. A camera fest.
 

Jowetts were in good company, yes that is a red and white Jupiter reflected in the grill of the Roller

 We do not seem to be running out of people who say they haven't seen one of these for years! The big guns came out - AirForce flying at its best - one wouldn't have expected these planes to break their formation flying with tumble rolls etc.

John Wolf went up in a DC3 and got some stunning views of a Catalina flying in formation, and the city.


 

We had a great day - all cars represented and again very popular. John and Joan Wolf, Kevin and Marlene Lord and Lorna and Sam Johns joined by Bunty Condon had a good representation of the club colours

Fish and Chip Run  May, 2009

We gathered at Arataki Visitors’ Centre in the Waitakere Regional Park on a cold but clear and sunny morning for the ninth annual Fish ‘n Chip Run. Twenty-four members, family and friends took part in four Jupiters, three Javelins, three Bradfords and two other cars: the first time the Jupiters have had the greatest numbers at any of our club events!
 

The run took us through forest, country and seaside settings. We all stopped at Muriwai Beach to enjoy the view, although the gannet colonies were empty at this time of year. Then on to Helensville and back to Wuz’s Café and Restaurant for a fish and chip lunch at Muriwai. All 24 participants were accommodated round an extremely long table that filled Wuz’s balcony room!
 

The winners were Bruce and Sherill Macfarlane, with Ken and Sarah Brownlie second, and Ivan and Kathy Paul in third place. Well done! Next year will be the tenth Fish ‘n Chip run organised by Alex Davidson and Robin Ingram, so perhaps we need something special to mark the occasion!

This event was held in conjunction with the street pursuit racing “Flying 50”

Again Jowetts had a strong line up and featured in 3 of the 4 photos in the “NZ Herald” the following Monday

A new car to the Northern Branch is the cream Jupiter recently purchased from Nelson by Greg d’Anvers
